2021. Mothers. 5-point checklist.
2021. It has arrived. I’ve reflected so much these past 9+ months, I feel good about where I am today and I’m looking forward to more personal and professional growth in the coming year. That said, often the new year brings resolutions, intention setting and things we want to set as goals. For me, there’s an analogy, the 5 point car checklist that came up that seems suitable for this year’s intention. The intention is to THRIVE. That analogy is about the 5 point Car Safety Checklist in our cars. A car can symbolize “our bodies”. What is underneath the hood is where all the functioning and parts of our life exist. If there is anything about 2020 that we have learned, no one is promised tomorrow and life is unknown. Living fully authentically, and in the moment is what we have. We do have some control of how we take care of our health, our minds and our wellbeing. I found this 5 point checklist is particularly relevant for Mothers. It’s an on-going and evolving process of “getting under the hood” and discovering ways to fully come back to us. What we resist comes back to show us the lesson again. And what we “tend to” or give attention puts us on the path to heal. Some of the areas of ourselves have engine lights on and sometimes certain areas need to just remain in park or neutral for awhile. What I do know is that we can always start from somewhere in our healing. We can begin in one place. Then we move to the next. I think 2021 is about movement. Movement to find joy, peace and your own wellbeing. Here are just a few of the areas of the 5 point check list that I’d like to keep front and center on my motherhood journey this year.
Proper Functioning of Lights and Signals
I intend to have my LIGHTS and signals functioning and clear on where my goals and values are for the year.
Condition and Tread Depth of Tires
I intend to continue to GROUND myself. Tires are like my own feet. Making sure I’m tending to my foundation. When the tires are feeling good, you go with that energy. When the tread is low, it signals rest.
Brake System Check
I intend to maintain BOUNDARIES to take care of myself so I can continue to show up as the best version of myself. It should not have to get to the “Emergency” break for that light to go on or all the lights coming on in the dashboard panel.
Fluid Levels
I will continue to find ways daily and weekly to REPLENISH myself with joy, rest and rejuvenation so it doesn’t take so long to fill my cup back up. Keeping fluids up is essential.
Electrical and Safety Components
I will maintain an AWARENESS on a daily basis of how things are running “operationally” mind, body and soul, tending to “warning” lights that may come on and taking care of areas to ensure living fully and authentically.
The word I’m calling in in 2021 is ABUNDANCE. In the coming year, I’d like to fully embrace fully loving, fully being in me, and fully stepping into things that feel good.
Happy New year!
